Tonto Basin, Tonto National Monument, Globe
It was a little cool starting out but warmed up nicely by the time we got to Tonto Basin. After lunch it started getting windy and dusty.
About the ride
We had a great ride, a great group of about 11 bikes. We meet at Chandler Harley Davidson at 7:00 am kick stands up at 7:30 am. We went as a group with three ride captains. We anticipated some road closures but that didn’t happen. There was one fuel stop before the Monument where we took a short break before we continued on.
Stopped at the sign to get our pictures taken, for those competing for the HOG national parks challenge. There is a fee of $5.00 to visit the dwellings. The National Parks Pass gets up to 4 people in for free. There is a steep half mile climb to reach the cliff dwelling. It was a bit of a challenge but we did make it to the top. Minnie and I had never been here before and we enjoyed it very much. I don’t know how often we will be coming back, because of the climb. There is a great view of Roosevelt Lake. Information about desert plants and about the cliff dwellers was interesting. We got some great pictures to share.
Lunch was at Guayo’s On the Trail a Mexican restaurant. Everyone seemed to enjoy their meal before we had to leave and head back to the valley.
