As Minnie and I traveled the country last summer (2016) we noticed a lot of American flags flying in yards and on front porches. I was impressed with the patriotism we saw as we traveled. We also noticed a lot of veteran memorials in small towns. And one of the stand outs was the Veteran’s Memorial in Richland Center, WI.
It lists the names of all Veterans of Richland County, starting with the War of 1812, honors those who have served, who are serving and who will serve. It lists names of individuals who have been military personnel of a war, conflict, or in peacetime, a resident of Richland Center at some period in their life and who have been honorably discharged by the military.
We are proud to say that Minnie’s family has many names listed there. There is also a bench in honor of her Uncle Alfred and Aunt Ida Balsley. We were honored to stay with a couple whose names are on that memorial, Glenna and Ernest Spears. I am including the website to the memorial so if you are in the area they have a map to show you how to get there. This is a farming community with a population in 2010 of 5,184. Richland Center, WI is a great place to visit, we did it on the trike, and we found a lot of great rides around that area called the Driftless Destinations of Western Wisconsin. They have a website. Go to the home page and click on the routes and it will bring up a map. I was able load the map into the BoomBox GPS and it brought up the map OK but if you don’t start at their starting point it will only take you to the end destination. I guess what I should have done is reload the map when we got to end and see if the map would take us back to our starting point. I just thought of that, don’t know it will work.
I’m enclosing some of the pictures we (Minnie) took of the memorial.
